"There are no symbols to note or lessons to learn. What comes through more than anything is the enormous loneliness of the lives these two characters lived, together and apart (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 4)"

The New York Times
"One may legitimately debate the validity of Malick's vision, but not, I think, his immense talent. 'Badlands' is a most important and exciting film"
United Kingdom
Time Out
"'Badlands' is as psychologically precise as it is splendidly visually observant. But it also exudes a timeless, mythical and tragic quality (…) Rating: ★★★★★ (out of 5)"

Chicago Reader
"A film so rich in ideas it hardly knows where to turn"
United States
Chicago Tribune
"Watching it, you sense that Malick finds his outlaw lovers beautiful and terrible, pathetic and monstrous, funny and overwhelmingly sad"
United States
AV Club
"Malick displays the unique sensitivity to his character’s inner life (...) that has made him a singular filmmaker. His visual poetry has the effect of extracting the pulp while heightening the horror."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"An unmissable, transcendentally beautiful classic (...) Rating: ★★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"Achingly evocative of a time when Hollywood had the courage to invest in complex and morally ambiguous films and an indisputable masterpiece of American cinema (…) Rating: ★★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"Why does it work? Partly because of an intriguing contrast: between the lovely landscape (exquisitely framed by Malick) through which these young lovers wander, and the homicidal ugliness of their actions."
