Falling

Drama When 80-year-old independent farmer Willis travels to Los Angeles for an indefinite stay with son John and his family, two very different worlds collide. Mentally declining, Willis’ abrasiveness is both caustic and funny, bringing old wounds from the past and years of mutual mistrust to the surface.

The Hollywood Reporter
"As intelligent and sensitive a directing debut as you'd expect, and a highlight of Henriksen's career"

The New York Times
"Henriksen is the incendiary heart of a movie that ultimately proves more involving — and rather more complicated — than we expect."

"The result is a movie that baffles and enthralls in equal measure, and seldom lingers anywhere in between"

The Wrap
"Finely drawn character drama, as you might expect from much of Mortensen’s acting career"
United States
The Playlist
"A worse version of Clint Eastwood’s 'The Mule' (...) A shame, because 'Falling' is a passion project for Mortensen. But the passion never translates"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Mortensen takes a determined walk across the hot coals of family pain (...) a very substantial achievement (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"

The Washington Post
"An impressive example of how, in the hands of gifted artists, the most mortifying parts of being human can give way to unexpected beauty (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"[It] feels like the worst kind of passion project, one that forgot to bring the audience in for what amounts to a film more masturbatory than moving."
United States
Film School Rejects
"'Falling' is not for the faint of heart. It’s a prime example of how reproachable vulgarities and slurs can be used in art as means to an end that harbors significance and truth"
United States
ABC News
"The heart-piercing human drama displays all the traits that define Mortensen as an actor: strength, sensitivity and offbeat humor (...) 'Falling' takes a piece out of you"
