Danton

Drama Wajda directs his camera toward the social upheaval and political treachery of the French Revolution, and by doing so, draws an obvious allegory to the political situation in his native Poland in the 1980s. Depardieu is the boisterous people's champion, Danton, who is betrayed by the coldly civilized Robespierre as they maneuver for leadership of the New Republic.
