- Synopsis
- In 1862, during the Civil War, two rival companies begin construction of the first transcontinental railroad line linking the Atlantic to the Pacific. At the same time, it narrates the love affair between the daughter of one of the engineers, Mollie Monahan (Barbara Stanwyck), the government agent in charge of the security of the project for the Union Pacific, Jeff Butler (Joel McCrea), and the main saboteur Dick Allen (Robert Preston).
