Media Author Review
United States
The New York Times
"[Macdonald] easily holds the screen here, too, even when working on fumes and with dumb shtick. She and an energetic cast (...) keep you hopeful even when the storytelling grinds to a crawl"
United States
CNN
"The set-up somehow works reasonably well in 'Dumplin’' (...) [Macdonald] helps elevate the material (...) It's all presented with admirable conviction"
United States
Variety
"Ace turns by Danielle Macdonald and Jennifer Aniston — plus a sprinkling of Dolly Parton pixie dust — make Netflix's teen comedy a sweetly progressive surprise."
United States
Vulture
"[Fletcher] has a way of instilling basic comic conflicts with a heady dose of humanism (...) One of the pleasures of 'Dumplin’' is watching the four young actresses work together"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Macdonald shines brightly here (...) But her glowing performance simply calls attention to how creaky and formulaic the rest of 'Dumplin’' is."
United States
Entertainment Weekly
"[It is] pretty sweet to sink into (...) Macdonald is so immensely likable, you wish she was given a little more genuine tension"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"It is boringly conventional, giving the sensation of having seen it all before (...) Too often the film loudly announces its noble intentions with slogans instead of dialogue (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Rant
"A charming and emotionally moving coming-of-age story, elevated by the performances of its two leads and given a great deal of personality thanks to the writing and directing behind the scenes (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
