Empire
"A step back from the last film in terms of ambition, this nevertheless continues the series' chirpy, amiable mood. Nothing to be po-faced about here (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Collider
"'Kung Fu Panda 4' continues Po's adventures as one of the most consistent animated franchises, while also testing new grounds for the series and setting up for the future"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Predictable but Pleasant Franchise Entry (...) 'Kung Fu Panda 4' clearly aims to refresh the franchise. But it's really more of the same, which is not such a bad thing"
United States
Variety
"Po is on the verge of retirement, which might not be a bad idea, given the lack of surprise and good jokes"
United States
IndieWire
"A mostly enjoyable lark, even if its feather-light plotting makes the original movies feel like epics in comparison"
United States
Mashable
"'Kung Fu Panda 4' is a blast, especially when it comes to its action sequences"
United States
The Washington Post
"Jack Black keeps the fists and giggles flying in a sequel that’s more hustle than heart (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Los Angeles Times
"A lacklustre sequel which is as colourful and energetic as its predecessors but lacks the sweet buoyancy that once made this franchise so fun"
United States
Paste Magazine
"'Kung Fu Panda 4' feels pretty canned compared to the first two movies (...) It will entertain children, and it will inspire another sequel"
Canada
Screen Rant
"Though following a familiar formula that's running the risk of wearing thin, 'Kung Fu Panda 4' still finds heart in the reliable DreamWorks franchise (...) Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)"
United States

"Erratic but fun"
United Kingdom
Total Film
"Jack Black and Awkwafina are a fun pairing in an enjoyably sprightly sequel that never leaves its comfort zone (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"

United States
The Wrap
"The DreamWorks Animation film never packs the same punch as its predecessors"
United States

"'Kung Fu Panda 4' has enough solid scenes to make it an acceptable fourth entry in a franchise, but the plot doesn't come together in a way that would elevate it to the franchise's earlier heights"
United States
Deadline
"Visually this one tops them all (...) Another winner bound to add to the impressive legacy of this lovable Chinese bear"
United States
The Playlist
"As an animated film, it has some nicely lit moments and, as noted, the battles are often impressively staged, but from a design standpoint it’s a genuine step back from the artistic vision director Jennifer Yuh Nelson pulled off for 'King Fu Panda 2' and even 'Kung Fu Panda 3'"
United States
SlashFilm
"Where 'Kung Fu Panda 4' falters in the story, it makes up for with exquisite animation and meticulously choreographed action sequences"
United States
AV Club
"This escapade is one that's best left forgotten"
United States
New York Post
"While nice enough, [it] suggests that the smartest move would be to let the fuzzy guy retire to a calming bamboo forest rather than embark on yet another predictable adventure (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
United States
IGN
"There are enough new additions and expertly choreographed fight scenes to make this another worthy entry into the series"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"With no Angelina Jolie, it’s time for this franchise to call it a day (...) While the previous films were sweet, funny and kinetic, this desperate instalment wrings the last drops of value from its tired characters (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"[It] falls short of its predecessors"
United States
Slant
"The film is a good time, and it doesn't exactly betray any of ['Kung Fu Panda']'s strengths, but it also exhibits the telltale signs of a series struggling to justify its existence (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
United States
The Daily Beast
"Necessary or not, the brand new 'Kung Fu Panda 4' is outstanding: a gorgeous, funny romp with set-pieces that set a new bar for action in Western animation"
Canada
JoBlo
"[It] has enough of that to make it a fun enough romp for kids, but it can’t help but feel like this franchise’s moment has passed, and isn’t really strong enough material to sustain a spin-off"
