- At the instigation of Louis Berger, Henry Rogers is falsely accused of having embezzled a large sum of money and sentenced to prison. As a convict in the prison quarry, he becomes good friends with the warden's son, Allan. Lille Allan believes in Henry's innocence and help him escape. Investigations gives no results and the assumption is that the prisoner drowned during the escape. The villain Berger and his accomplice Daniels seem to have won.
Fifteen years later, Daniels is extorting Louis Berger and forcing him to embezzle a large part of his beautiful niece Eva's fortune. Eva is engaged to the now adult Allan Williams, the warden's son. Allan has fallen into bad company and received large gambling debts.
Henry Rogers has in the meantime become a rich man abroad and returns home to repay his debt to the young man who once helped him escape. Daniel learns that Rogers is back and uses his knowledge to extort additional money from Berger. When Eva asks her uncle for money to help her fiance her fortune is entirely gone. Allan must rely upon anonymous charity.
Henry Rogers seeks out Louis Berger who is half mad at the meeting and commit suicide. Daniels leads the police to think that Eva might have murdering her uncle. When Rogers learns this, he goes himself to the police and dispels suspicions against Eva. Daniels escapes, but Eva and Allan can under Henry's patronage look forward to their wedding.
