Drama
Just after boarding a train, much to the surprise of his fellow passengers, a man pours a bucket of water over a young girl on the platform. Over the next few hours he explains how he became obsessed by her (character played by two different actresses, representing different sides of her personality), and how she tantalised him, but would never allow him to satisfy his desire for her.

"[Bunuel's] film is filled with small, droll touches, with tiny peculiarities of behavior, with moral anarchy, with a cynicism about human nature that somehow seems, in his hands, almost cheerful."
"With an effortlessness matched by no other director today, Buñuel creates a vision of a world as logical as a theorem, as mysterious as a dream, and as funny as a vaudeville gag."
"A mature commentary on the invisible line between passion and absurdity -- erotic, political, and religious." |
