Media Author Review
United States
IndieWire
"Edgar Wright’s delirious horror movie is a mod delight. (...) it has plenty of The Wright Stuff yet feels entirely new. What a superb film. (...) the skill with which Wright navigates between tones and time periods is exceptional".
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Wickedly entertaining (...) an immensely pleasurable film that delights in playing with genre, (...) two absolutely compelling leads"
United States
Variety
"A surprising misfire, all the more disappointing for being made with such palpable care and conviction".
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Riotously entertaining thriller. (...) 'Last Night In Soho' is the kind of good time which isn’t over until someone’s either crying or bleeding. And oh, how we’ve all missed those nights!"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"British writer-director Edgar Wright takes a grab-bag of 1960s ingredients, paints them up and makes them dance to his tune. His film is thoroughly silly and stupidly enjoyable. (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Total Film
"Thrilling, dazzling, sometimes frightening fun. (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"A few flat ideas aside, this is a handsomely made horror film that expertly utilises the frightening talent of its young stars and draws Wright into a new, exciting chapter (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
New York Post
"Wright paces his movie well. Just when you've had enough of something, or someone, a new energy comes bursting in. The film about a bewitched flat never gets flat"
United States
Time Out
"Wright always keeps the female perspective at the forefront (...) An immersive evocation of time and place, and a more sober, if still stylish, filmmaking flex (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Wrap
"[It] is rich enough and entertaining enough as a spectacle on it own merits, anchored by excellent work from its two young leads, who should attract new audiences perhaps unfamiliar with the place and the genre"
United States
Bloody Disgusting
"It has no shortage of positive attributes (...) The repetitive narrative results in uneven pacing and the questionable conclusion that doesn't entirely work (...) It's undeniably worth checking out (…) Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"With guile, Wright is signalling to us that we may sit back and enjoy, even the scary bits, as we are in good hands. It is all in good fun. It is a magician's act that I am anxious to revisit again, and again"
United States
Decider
"In a sense, 'Last Night in Soho' tends to be a collection of crazy, imaginative moments more than a fully formed creative vision —but the thought of not watching it for that reason strikes me as flat-out ludicrous"
United States
Ready Steady Cut
"If you are a fan of Edgar's then this is a must-see, but fans of the genre may find the cliche-ridden plot and elongated story nothing new or exciting (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
