Media Author Review
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Loud, bombastic and thuddingly obvious, this is a vulgar movie for vulgar times."
United States
Variety
"'King Arthur' is just a loud, obnoxious parade of flashy set pieces, as one visually busy, belligerent action scene after another marches by, each making less sense than the last, but all intended to overwhelm."
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"Guy Ritchie's combat-heavy Camelot is a very silly place (...) The camerawork makes the Bourne films look like Bresson (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"It’s reasonably good fun and there’s a great 'assassination' scene (...) The film rattles along exhilaratingly, if sometimes intermittently (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Chicago Tribune
"It is a grim and stupid thing, from one of the world's most successful mediocre filmmakers"
United States
Entertainment Weekly
"'King Arthur' could have been a rollicking blast. Instead it’s just another wannabe blockbuster with too much flash and not enough soul."
United States
Village Voice
"A compendium of all the things that make the British director so occasionally exciting and so often irritating, this new, hyper-stylized take on the Arthurian legends veers between genius and idiocy."
United Kingdom
Empire
"[It] occasionally sparkles before being scuppered by generic effects, conflicting ideas and an embarrassing celebrity cameo for the ages (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
USA Today
"It's a messy mélange of the British filmmaker's own gangster pictures and 'Lord of the Rings' (...) This 'Sword' should have stayed in the stone"
United States
IndieWire
"One of those generic blockbusters that has nothing to say and no idea how to say it."
United States
AV Club
"The best and worst thing about his King Arthur is that it’s a complete mess—by turns a generic fantasy film in the house style of the Warner Bros. superhero movies (...) and a nose-thumbing, mock-cockney-fied send-up of the same."
United States
The Wrap
"'King Arthur' seems constantly panicked that the audience’s attention span won’t last another second, so each moment is a frenzy of sight and sound (...) and the ultimate effect is more exhausting than exhilarating."
