Media Author Review
United States
The New York Observer
"Skillfully made and adrenalin-fueled, Warrior is nothing like what I expected. It overcomes inescapable boxing and martial arts clichés and leaves you thoroughly sated, energized and wanting more"
United States
Orlando Sentinel
"'Warrior' is a straight genre picture, a fight movie of the old school. But it's a mixed martial arts tale, and as such, it's the best MMA movie ever (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of four)"
United States
Variety
"An improbably effective and affecting mix of raw emotions and exciting smackdowns"
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"Although Gavin O'Connor is not shy about exploiting action, he uses the full force of strong characters to give it more meaning than action alone could supply (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United States
New York Post
"A cheap exploitation picture (...) 'Warrior' is the type of movie that tries to convince us that what we’re seeing is important"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"'Warrior' possesses surprising poetry and finesse. Which is not to say that it is subtle (...) This movie wants to knock you out. It will."
United Kingdom
Empire
"It hardly rewrites the rulebook, but Warrior is a powerful, moving and brilliant sports-pic-cum-family drama. Like The Fighter, but with kicking. (...) Rating: ★★★★★ (out of five)"
United States
Slant
"So gripping that, even at 139 minutes, Warrior leaves you wanting even more."
United States
Chicago Tribune
"Every time you start resisting, somehow the film makes the sale, again."
United States
The New York Times
"It is appropriately blunt, powerful and relentless, a study of male bodies in sweaty motion and masculine emotions in teary turmoil."
United States
Miami Herald
"The film is a brutally effective, insanely rousing piece of drama, with enough new wrinkles and ferocious acting to sweep you into its clutches."
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"A sports film whose promise of a more nuanced take on familiar genre tropes ends up battered and bruised."
United States
Rolling Stone
"'Warrior' aspires to myth. It's Cain and Abel battling it out in the face of a decidedly ungodly father before humanity goes down for the count. Strong stuff."
United States
USA Today
"'Warrior' is a relentless, emotionally engaging family drama and underdog saga with touches of "Rocky" mixed with "The Fighter."
