- Synopsis
- TV series (2001-2023). 23 seasons. Series that chronicles the last years of Franco's dictatorship and the arrival of democracy, from the perspective of a middle-class Spanish family, the Alcántara. Narrated from the point of view of the youngest son, Carlos (Ricardo Gómez), who narrates the events as an adult in the present time, the family is composed of Antonio Alcántara (Imanol Arias), a strict family man who tries to progress in life, Mercedes (Ana Duato), Inés (Irene Visedo), the eldest daughter in her teens who just wants to enjoy life, Toni (Pablo Rivero), the rebellious son who longs for the arrival of democracy, and Carlitos himself. Grandmother Herminia (María Galiana) also lives with the family. Other characters are Don Pablo (Pepe Sancho), an arrogant businessman of the Franco era, Eugenio (Pere Ponce), a left-wing priest, or Nieves (Rosario Pardo), a widowed friend of Mercedes. In addition to the various vicissitudes, problems and family and social adventures of the Alcántara family -and other characters of the neighborhood-, the series tries to cover the main political and social events of the Spain of those years, which partly explains the enormous success of RTVE's ratings.
