- Synopsis
- Based upon the Stephen King novella of the same name, it's the story of a high school boy's fascination with the Nazi occupation of Europe and the atrocities they committed during World War II. He begins to believe his quiet neighbor is a former Nazi and when he finds out he is, he imprisons the man in his house and forces him to divulge his secrets about any atrocity he committed or had knowledge of, saying that once he has done so, he will be set free.

- Critics' reviews
-
-
"Not all the plot developments ring true, but moments carry a real chill"
-
"Despite the riveting performances of Renfro and McKellen, we're left with classic horror-movie sociopaths, evil-doers without conscience, or much to say about the nature of evil"
-
"Perhaps the most disappointing thing about Apt Pupil is the lack of sustained tension generated by director Bryan Singer."
-
"It's not perfect King, but it is jarringly close"
-
"McKellen is fine, of course, but the film as a whole offers about as much insight into evil as Ming The Merciless in a 'Flash Gordon' serial"
