"The film is likely to appeal to young romantics (...) The part of the movie devoted to endurance lacks the harrowing power of, say, 2013's 'All Is Lost'"
United States
Variety
"[Woodley] keeps you captivated, even when the film itself is watchable in a perfectly competent, touching, and standard way."

"Kormákur has maintained remarkable control over the images (...) The storm, when it finally comes, is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking and effects (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United States
IndieWire
"[A] harrowing and immersive survival thriller (...) The queasy immediacy of Kormákur’s filmmaking keeps things on course"
United States
The New York Times
"Kormakur smoothly alternates between before and after (...) The film is a notch below average. It lacks the austere grandeur of 'All Is Lost'"
United States
Entertainment Weekly
"[Kormákur] has a knack for making the pedestrian feel surprising and fresh"
United States
"[Kormákur] has a great feel for the open sea and its visual properties and dramatic potential. The biggest problem in 'Adrift', as is often the case, is people."
United States
New York Post
"A little dull for a terror-at-sea movie (...) 'Adrift' is worth a watch, even if its drama (...) pales in comparison to the source material (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"The 'Divergent' star [Woodley] puts in a career-best performance, while director Baltasar Kormákur keeps interest levels up (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Kormákur makes good use of location filming on the open waters, giving this melodramatic tale a dose of realism, but this true story is never as harrowing as the subject matter would suggest."
