Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Fantasy. Action. Comedy Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his symbiote pal Venom are still trying to figure out how to live together when a death row inmate (Woody Harrelson) gets infected with a symbiote of his own, becoming the evil Carnage.
Media Author Review
United States
Variety
"[It] has all the indications of a slap-dash cash grab. The set-pieces look sloppy, the visual effects are all over the place, and the laughs come largely at the movie’s expense."
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Though it will please most fans of the 2018 first installment, 'Carnage' proves that superhero fatigue applies to nonheroes as well."
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' is a grander spectacle than the mediocre 2018 original, offering monster-movie mayhem with a welcome sense of humour about its own ludicrousness."
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"While 'Let There Be Carnage' is marginally better than the original (...) this vehicle runs out of gas halfway through the yawner of a climax (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United States
Los Angeles Times
"It’s the themes of home, love, and companionship that make Serkis’ sequel another reason to want more 'Venom' movies, and quickly."
United States
The New York Times
"Yes, there are battles — all of them exponentially less interesting than a twitch of Hardy’s eyebrow"
United States
New York Post
"'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' is the worst hero film series ever (...) This sequel chewed up my brain, spit it out and mercilessly stomped on it (…) Rating: ★ (out of 4)"
United States
The Wrap
"It crams a heck of a lot of movie into an hour and a half, but it doesn’t feel like it needed to be longer. It just feels like we need more movies like it."
United States
IndieWire
"Fans of the first film will love Andy Serkis' disarmingly faithful followup, but it's hard to shake the sense this wacky spinoff hasn't yet hit its stride."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"An admirably light-hearted but utterly disposable sequel (...) While Serkis and Kelly Marcel have maintained the first film's light zippiness and dated idea of cool, they've lost almost everything else (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Collider
"The breeziest superhero movie ever made. The sequel far surpasses the original by leaning into the comic elements."
United States
Entertainment Weekly
"There are a few big-reach set pieces (...) though the crashing, helter-skelter fight scenes tend to feel like so much obligatory noise between the banter."
United States
Vanity Fair
"An unnecessary sequel can’t duplicate the fun of the original."
United States
Rolling Stone
"'Carnage' is for the most part, in ways that count, another dirtbag delight (...) The 'Venom' movies aren’t good because they’re unabashed trash. They’re good because they’re good"
United States
rogerebert.com
"[It] is zippy and breezy (...) [It] offers a very different kind of complicated, intimate relationship (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United States
IGN
"Serkis efficiently balances various tones, visual spectacles, and humorous performances to surprisingly make it work (...) A fun and action-packed sequel that highlights Venom as his own character"
United States
Slant
"[Its] latter half, then, represents a stark tonal shift from the more elegant and playful approach of the first (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
Digital Spy
"With Andy Serkis at the helm, the movie makes great use of CGI and movie magic, really allowing Venom to fill the screen with a life of his own (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Rant
"The result feels like it's being pulled in one too many directions and ends up feeling very messy. Thankfully, part of the charm of the burgeoning 'Venom' movie franchise is that mess (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Screen Crush
"This movie is cut to the bone so severely that simple, fundamental questions about the story are left totally unanswered"
United States
Deadline
"A CGI feast of effects both visual and aural that ought to satisfy those who want to submit to it (...) Hardy has found a character he can sink his teeth into and he is appealing here"
United States
Bloody Disgusting
"Comic book fans hoping this would be the battle for the ages will likely come away disappointed. It’s a quick and dirty brawl that wraps up tidily (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
JoBlo
"If you liked the first film, you would like this one too. Unfortunately, despite Serkis being involved, I’m not so sure the franchise has made a massive jump in terms of quality"
Canada
CBR
"[It] is firmly and confidently violent, funny, and over-the-top (...) It succeeds far better than 'Venom', and its end result is more than fun enough to warrant a watch."
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' lacks the novelty or originality of its predecessor"
United Kingdom
Empire
"There's a little bit more polish this time, but for all the talented people involved, 'Let There Be Carnage' still has the whiff of a turd in the wind (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Decider
"An epically moronic Marvel sequel that'll eat your grey matter alive (...) 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' is a disconcerting experience"
