Media Author Review
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Punches are thrown but few bruises are left (...) Winkler and his writers lack the firm grasp of genre storytelling to steer Jungleland through all the twisty turns of its late action with assurance"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"A compelling piece of storytelling (...) Rather than a boxing movie in which drama plays out in a ring, the most satisfying element here is the examination of the complex relationship between two damaged young men"
United States
The Playlist
"Some viewers will find the hamster-wheel nature of 'Jungleland' monotonous (...) Viewers more interested in performance and mood likely won’t mind"
United States
Los Angeles Times
"Certain images are incredibly striking (...) There’s a mythic quality to [the characters'] cross-country odyssey, which is bloody and emotionally and physically brutal but also poignant"
United States
Variety
"This movie is so thoughtfully acted and crafted you’d like to feel every emotion it’s communicating as strongly as it hopes you will. But those emotions (...) never lose the plastic scent of much-recycled artifice"
United States
IndieWire
"Lifted by a career-best performance from Charlie Hunnam, Max Winkler's hardscrabble boxing drama rope-a-dopes you into a knockout."
United States
The New York Times
"The sweaty clichés enacted along the way are uniformly tired and ultimately offensive"
United States

"'Jungleland' is more of a mood-piece than anything else, and on that level it works beautifully. The mood is strange, sad, and hypnotic (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
The Independent
"This depiction of hardscrabble American life seems derived not so much from direct experience or empathetic observation, as from a handful of half-listened-to Bruce Springsteen albums (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
