Driven

Thriller. Comedy The film is inspired by the true story of the FBI sting operation to bring down maverick auto executive DeLorean. Set in the opulence of early 1980s California, it follows the meteoric rise of DeLorean and his iconic DeLorean Motor Company; his friendship with a charming ex-con-turned-informant, Jim Hoffman; and the drug scandal that brought DeLorean low.
Media Author Review
United States
Variety
"Pace gives it something like a heart, albeit a closed, melancholic one: that’s some acting, and it’s maybe more than these agreeably derivative proceedings deserve."
United States
Los Angeles Times
"The shifts in tone generally work, and credit is also due these characters and the performances behind them. Pace is particularly strong"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Fun but pretty minor (...) [It] has a somewhat messy structure (...) A pretty entertaining period comedy"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Two fine central performances bring a clever Colin Bateman script alive (...) Energetically paced"
Cineuropa
"Dynamic, occasionally entertaining and slightly self-satisfied, but frankly all over the place."
United States
The New York Times
"Somewhere deep inside 'Driven' (...) lies a fascinating movie (...) To make that movie, though, would have required a less glib tone and an infinitely more focused script."
United States
The Film Stage
"The strongest elements, throughout, are the performances of Pace, Sudeikis, Greer, and Stoll (...) While its title may not linger in your memory, 'Driven' is a well-told, strongly-acted drama with real heart."
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"Like they say, never let the facts get in the way of a good story. 'Driven' has a pretty good one, and it tells it in a fast-paced, entertaining way."
Canada
Now Toronto
"It’s a perfectly cromulent crime-doesn’t-pay narrative, elevated slightly by director Hamm’s unapologetic love of period kitsch and engaging performances from Sudeikis and [Judy Greer and Corey Stoll]"
United Kingdom
Time Out
"This plasticky biopic suffers from shonky storytelling (...) It tells us next to nothing about DeLorean (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"An enjoyable if routine period crime picture with good performances from Jason Sudeikis and Lee Pace, but it lacks a personality and style of its own (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"The results have all the dramatic horsepower of a mobility scooter (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
Ireland
Film Ireland
"The comic tone sits rather uneasily with this limited drama (...) It’s a pity that the extraordinary DeLorean story hasn’t made a really effective transition to the silver screen yet"
