Media Author Review
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"'Wonderstruck' is unmistakably the work of an artisan whose attention to detail mirrors the role of museum curators celebrated in the story."
United States
Variety
"A lovingly crafted adventure of innocence (...) [It] literally tries to add up, piece by piece, into a fully assembled puzzle of greatness, but the puzzle is less than transporting because you can still see all the seams."
United States
IndieWire
"A profoundly moving fable for all ages (...) A soul-stirring and fiercely uncynical film"
United States
The Wrap
"As a formal exercise in the look and feel of cinema, 'Wonderstruck' is dazzling; as a piece of storytelling, it’s more problematic"
United States
Vanity Fair
"[It] looks and sounds great, but tells a muddled story (...) The film is downright sloppy at the end—no less gorgeous to look at and listen to, but narratively rushed and manipulative."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"[It] has nice details but suffers from a glib tone and some preposterous plotting (...) Disappointmentstruck and even rather boredomstruck are reasonable descriptions of my emotional state (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Audiences hoping for a Todd Haynes movie will not be disappointed. First rate work from cinematographer Edward Lachman (...) There’s an elegant symmetry to the two stories."
United Kingdom
Time Out
"It ends up as a sweet-enough movie, and one that’s full of joy and invention – but also one that feels like a lot of effort has been put into serving a tale that maybe doesn’t fully deserve it (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"A tender study of three children yearning to find their place (...) Haynes’s vision of two New Yorks, a half-century apart, is a marvel of nested detail (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
Ireland
Irish Times
"'Wonderstruck' remains a singular entertainment. Mid-ranking Todd is better than top-ranking anybody else (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
