Media Author Review
United States
Variety
"A film of high wit and confidence and verve, an astonishingly fluid and accomplished act of boundary-leaping (...) it proves that Kore-eda, in ways we might not have expected, has a dazzlingly exportable talent"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"It has the playful lightness of touch, the wit and warmth that are an essential part of the Kore-eda signature; it's also an affectionate ode to French cinema itself"
United States
IndieWire
"Instantly believable as a wistful and earthy French dramedy, 'The Truth' is lithe and relaxed enough to be mistaken for an Olivier Assayas movie"
United States
The Wrap
"A fascinating exploration of the fallibility of memory (...) Even working in another language and on another continent, [Kore-eda] once again captures the intricacies of the human condition"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Kore-eda’s tale is warm and soothing, verging on over-cosy. But it contains a hard core of emotional truth, like the pea beneath the mattress that woke up the princess (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Una película muy 'europea' con encanto e ingenio que ocasionalmente logra registros muy emotivos y en la que Catherine Deneuve interpreta con brío y entusiasmo su mejor papel desde 'Potiche'."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"[A] stylish, seductive family drama (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Metro
"Richly textured and subtle, his work is such that you either tune into its wavelength or find it a turn-off. Emotions are sublimated, audience catharsis denied (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
Cineuropa
"The good news is that 'The Truth' is not, I repeat, not Naomi Kawase’s dreadful foray into another language called 'Vision' (...) A slight affair, if also perfectly pleasant"
