Synopsis: You either love them, or you hate them! But either way, you probably didn't know that the mussel can be used for much more than a starter - until now! 'Mussels In Love' is nothing less than the ultimate film about the life and food of this strange shellfish, and about the whole human comedy that unfolds around it.

For the mussel can provide humanity with many things, as among others the gynecologist Jan will attest to, who uses the glue that mussels produce to save unborn children. At the same time, we also meet both biologists and cooks, who each in their own way deal with mussels in their everyday lives - from when they are born at the bottom of the sea to when they end up on our plates, in aquaria an in laboratories after a long journey.

Willemiek Kluijfhout's film is shot on 35mm, and as with the French surrealist and marine biologist Jean Painlevé, both the underwater images and those from on land possess a great sense for the adventure and beauty of small things. For even if you are tough on the outside, you can still be soft on the inside.
