- Synopsis
- This film is one in a series of programs that takes a look at some of the most decisive military battles in the history of the world. The subject of this episode is the Peloponnesian Wars, fought between the Greek city states of Athens and Sparta, from 431-404 B.C. Sparta was victorious. The historian Thucydides fought in the war, and later wrote its history. Much of the material for the re-enactments presented in the video come from this ancient book. Period costumes lend an authentic air to the battle scenes, which are filmed on location.
