- Synopsis
- According to the UN, more than 920 million people suffer from chronic hunger in the world. The meaning of those figures depends on our understanding of what starving means. Usually, the media discusses hunger from a macroscopic perspective. It gives us figures, and it debates hunger´s environmental, geographical, economical and political causes. But most often, we don´t really know what is the meaning of hunger for those who live with it. Those questions cannot be answered by statistical data. In order to grasp the meaning of starvation, one needs to live with starving people for a while, and to be with them in a day to day basis. This is the subject matter of Garapa, a film that aims to reveal the real meaning facing malnutrition.
