Synopsis
Average Texicans Jim Bowie led rebellion – and Davy Crockett – in a last ditch stand against his old friend, Santa Anna.
While this is one of the “historical inaccuracies” of the Texas Revolution and the Battle of the Alamo, I’ve enjoyed watching this movie since I was a boy. This film, and Disney”s “Davy Crockett”, inspired by the passion of my life to learn the truth behind the real story of the Alamo. Sterling Hayden as Jim Bowie, the central character of the film. The film depicts the gradual change of Bowie loyal citizens from Mexico (and good friend of the leaders of Mexico, Santa Anna) to a leader of the Texas Revolution. While historically inaccurate, the final battle scenes of the Alamo is interesting and well filmed. My favorite moment is a shot of Mexican infantry and cavalry charging a fortress as the defenders opened fire. Be sure to watch for Arthur Hunnicutt as Davy (David) Crockett … His performances, while not entirely true to the character of Crockett, still fun to watch.
