- Julia Traynor is a highly efficient personal secretary, managing nearly everything for her boss, Wall Street trader Jerry Stafford. Julia's fiancé Philip Craig works in Wall Street as well. Jerry wants to be more than Julia's boss, but she loves Philip. After Jerry persists in pursuing her, Julia decides to marry Philip, and Jerry fires her. Regretful, Jerry decides to give some of his assets to Philip for him to handle them. But things turn out for the worse a year later, when Philip's investment in silk fails, which makes him lose all his money and also the money of Jerry and other investors that he has been embezzling. Julia then goes to Jerry to offer herself in exchange of money to save her husband from jail.
