Aquaman 2

Fantasy. Action. Sci-Fi Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father's death and wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. To defeat him, Aquaman must turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance in order to save the world from irreversible destruction.
Media Author Review
United States
USA Today
"The movie neither sinks nor swims: It’s aggressively fine, floating along as a breezy enough outing – and a brotherly one – without any particularly spectacular strokes (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
United States
The Playlist
"It’s a shame that 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' is the final part of the DCEU because more of this would have been welcome. On the other hand, the DCEU gets to go out on a high note and in style"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"The most numbingly moronic film of 2023 (...) This sequel to 2018's poor original looks hideous and sounds ridiculous (...) Rating: ★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"For the most part Wan sticks to the video-game aesthetic of his first film (...) Momoa approaches his character with the same charming and goofy wit"
Canada
The Globe and Mail
"Washing ashore after years of behind-the-scenes drama and reshoot rigmaroles, 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' cannot help but feel like the quack-iest of lame-duck sequels (...) The story is, as suspected, nothing special"
United States
Variety
"The movie, with all that combat, is staged on an impressively grand scale by the returning director, James Wan, but at the same time there’s something glumly standard about it."
United States
rogerebert.com
"There are some good ones in here, choreographed, framed and edited with Wan's characteristic clarity (...) Kidman, Morrison, Lundgren, Abdul-Mateen and other supporting players exhibit such poker-faced commitment to the story throughout (...) This is a fun ride (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United States
IndieWire
"This floundering sequel lacks the sense of discovery and depth of vision that made James Wan's previous 'Aquaman' so much fun"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"What once felt like a necessary countermeasure to DC’s reign of superhero seriousness now feels slight (...) Aquaman rules his domain, but that kingdom is not as glimmering as it once was"
United States
The Washington Post
"A superhero sequel that lands like a draft version, not a finished product (...) Rating: ★ (out of 4)"
United States
The Daily Beast
"[It] is actually the worst DC movie yet (...) A franchise farewell so underwhelming, nary a tear will be shed over its passing"
United States
AV Club
"It’s the kind of film that wants to leave everything it has out on the field, and that produces a kinetic, often scattered, but nonetheless entertaining popcorn movie that truly gives us everything it has, and then some"
United States
Collider
"With 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom', we get the best and worst of the DCEU, but also a reminder that there’s still hope for these characters, with a bit more focus"
United States
The Wrap
"James Wan’s superhero choppy, unsatisfying superhero sequel ends the franchise on a low note"
United States
IGN
"[It] shines as a buddy comedy, but gets dragged down by shoddy effects and a dull first act"
United States
SlashFilm
"When the plot gets going and we're on a road trip through fantastical locations, the movie becomes a fun ride. It's not as good as the original, but it is still one of the better superhero films of the year"
United Kingdom
BBC
"An unremarkable sequel (...) that never attempts anything original or honest (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Paste Magazine
"'Aquaman left it all on the ocean floor; its sequel can only work harder for slightly less fun, and the rest of its universe can hardly compete."
United States
Mashable
"[It] is ugly in appearance, and dispiriting in its conception of a fun character inhabiting a potentially whimsical world. It’s a nothing movie for no one"
United States
Forbes
"Good but not great"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Yet more evidence that the superhero movie industry is foundering comes from this shoddy, scraped-from-the-bottom-of-an-ocean-trench sequel (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Rolling Stone
"It’s a failure no matter how you judge it"
Canada
Screen Rant
"[It] is as goofy and adventurous as the first movie, but tries too hard for a seriousness it can never achieve with Jason Momoa (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"A buddy comedy waterlogged with boring villains and underwhelming visuals (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United States

"It’s a lesser experience than the first 'Aquaman', which was mediocre-plus"
United States
Slant
"The film hits its plot milestones as fast as humanly possible, cohesion or depth be damned (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
