Media Author Review
United States
Variety
"'Kick-Ass 2' improves on its 2010 predecessor in at least one respect: It doesn't make the mistake of trying to pass off its bone-crunching brutality as something shocking or subversive"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"The film delivers almost exactly what fans of the first installment are hoping for"
United States
The New York Times
"The writer and director, Jeff Wadlow, can’t obscure the movie’s misogyny, and he also has a tough time staging a scene and selling a joke"
United Kingdom
Time Out
"The best thing about 'Kick-Ass' was Moretz, and Hit-Girl still gets the best lines. Like the first film, 'Kick-Ass 2' pulls the reality of teen life into its fantasy (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of five)"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"Cheap and repetitive (...) Rating: ★★ (out of five)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"A more modest success than the first 'Kick-Ass' (...) 'Kick-Ass 2' still has its share of over-the-top action, and the sweary laughs are just about intact (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of five)"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Ultimately feels rather scattershot and disjointed, perhaps quite simply because it lacks the sheer left-field originality of the original"
United States
New York Post
"'Kick-Ass 2' sometimes felt like being trapped in a room with the funniest guy in seventh grade (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of four)"
United States
USA Today
"'Kick-Ass' is a prime example of a movie that never should have bothered with a sequel (...) lacking the visual style and gleeful humor of the original (...) Rating: ★½ (out of four)"
United States
Chicago Tribune
"It's no better, no worse and essentially no different from the jocular, clodhopping brutality of the first one (...) Rating: ★½ (out of four)"
United Kingdom
View London
"Despite strong performances and the occasional decent action sequence, this is a disappointing and largely pointless sequel that fails to capture the tone of the original and ends up feeling unpleasant on a number of different levels."
