Media Author Review
United Kingdom
Empire
"The film does work, but not quite as well as the Hepburn-Tracy classic that it seeks to replace. Mildly amusing."
United States
The New York Times
"The material has been successfully refurbished with new jokes and new attitudes, but the earlier film's most memorable moments have been preserved."
United States
Time
"Neither the '90s nor the husband-wife team of Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer can match the original film's grace or wit."
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"It's one of the movies with a lot of smiles and laughter in it, and a good feeling all the way through (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
Time Out
"Some sequences and dialogue are lifted directly from the original, but in the wider context, this merely serves to underline the remake's comparative lack of tenderness and subtlety."
United States
The Washington Post
"A pleasing, well-crafted, surprisingly satisfying diversion"
United States
SFGATE
"One of the nicest things about Father of the Bride is that it's not ashamed to be old-fashioned and sweet. It's also not ashamed to get sappy and drippy and gooey, but you have to take the good with the bad"
