- Synopsis
- Sexy Gloria Swanson (adorned in an array of stunning Coco Chanel gowns) stars in this romantic comedy as Nella Vago, a Hungarian opera diva whose singing coach insists that her performances lack passion, a situation that can be rectified only if Vago experiences love herself. Returning to Budapest by train, Vago soon discovers that her fiancé, Count Albert von Granac, is in the midst of an affair. Vago’s spirits and faltering career receive much-needed boosts from a new relationship with the charming Jim Fletcher (Melvyn Douglas). But is Jim nothing more than a gigolo--or is he really an agent for the Metropolitan Opera in New York? TONIGHT OR NEVER is full of hilarious misunderstandings, features a young Boris Karloff as a waiter, and includes excerpts from Puccini’s mellifluous opera TOSCA.
