- Synopsis
- In New York in the 1930s, an Italian American family mourns the death of Johnny Tempio (Vincent Gallo), shot by an unknown assailant. For the Tempios, a mob family that built its business on the bodies of its enemies, the somber black coffin in the living room tells another story: the reward of violence as a way of life. Inside the coffin is the youngest brother, Johnny, the kind of guy people loved to hate. His charisma and arrogance brought him friends who would die for him and enemies who wanted him dead. As the past alternates with the present, the family is more and more divided by those who want to continue the bloodbath and those who pray for it to stop.
