Media Author Review
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"[It] attempts to infuse a romantic tale with strong doses of 'Twilight Zone'-style strangeness. While 'Happily' doesn't fully succeed in coherently weaving together its numerous surreal plot twists, the stylistic assuredness on display marks its tyro filmmaker as a talent to watch."
United States
Variety
"[It] is what happens when a cute conceit goes nowhere intriguing (...) Stranding a host of likable actors in atonal purgatory, it seems likely to please few"
United States
IndieWire
"A clever, high-concept dark comedy that uses the moral clarity of 'The Twilight Zone' to see through the veil of modern cynicism"
United States
Mashable
"There’s a lot to like in it due to the writing, direction, editing, cinematography, and acting. If you’re like me, then there’s a lot to dislike in it as well (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Common Sense Media
"A promising supernatural set-up takes a left turn at murder, and eventually it's clear that Grabinski doesn’t know how to end the tale (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
CBR
"An ambitious failure (...) Despite the often sardonic tone, BenDavid Grabinski's 'Happily' is more bizarre than funny."
United States
rogerebert.com
"The second half of 'Happily' isn’t nearly as interesting as the first (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United States
Polygon
"'Happily' is incredibly fun from start to finish. If nothing else, its nagging flaws feel less like errors, and more like untapped potential"
United States
The New York Times
"Grabinski has both wit and energy, and these qualities, along with a game cast, help keep 'Happily' afloat (...) But the movie wants to do too many things, and grows diffuse."
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"A black comedy that starts with sizzle and ends with a shrug (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
