Synopsis

Mouna, a divorced woman and the mother of a teenager, is an enthusiastic and optimistic Palestinian woman. In the occupied territories, daily life is however testing and the horizon, bleak. One day, it becomes possible to emigrate to the United States: a foreigner in her own country, Mouna moves there with her son Fadi in order to stay with her sister, who has been living in Illinois for the last 15 years. After the joy caused by the sisters’ reunion, Mouna and Fadi are confronted with the need of finding a place for themselves in this ‘Amreeka’ which they had idealised. But, right in the midst of a war against ‘evil Saddam’, the country has a rather strange idea of hospitality.
